Dr Weixi Liu is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Management Accounting, Finance & Law at the University of Bath, affiliated with the Centre for Research in Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Centre for Governance, Regulation and Industrial Strategy. He holds a PhD in Finance and MSc in Economics from the University of Exeter Business School. His research focuses on SME financing dynamics, entrepreneurial finance policies, corporate pension funds, and high-growth firm strategies. Prior roles include Associate Professorships at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and Renmin University of China, as well as positions at Exeter Business School and the UK Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS). Research Interests: Corporate pension fund impacts on corporate strategy Financing mechanisms for high-tech startups and SMEs Government policy evaluation on entrepreneurship Small business growth and regional economic disparities Recent Work Trends: His 2023-2025 publications emphasize pandemic-era SME financing challenges, credit market exclusion effects, and gender disparities in entrepreneurial financing. Earlier work (2017-2021) explored post-financial crisis SME resilience, innovation adoption barriers, and cross-country CSR reporting practices. Active in policy-related research, his work contributes to UN SDGs related to economic growth and innovation. Funding & Grants: Leads the Economic and Social Research Council-funded project (2022-2025) investigating SME productivity constraints and a prior University Seed Corn project (2015-2016) on credit markets. Supervised 4 doctoral students focusing on SME financing and innovation topics. Labs/Teams: Engaged with Bath's entrepreneurship research centers, collaborating internationally on SME policy analysis and innovation dynamics.
