Suzanne McLaren is a Professor of Psychology at Charles Sturt University, focusing on aging well, rural and regional mental health, and LGBTQ+ psychosocial well-being. She contributes to the Ageing Well Research Group, Resilience Across the Lifespan Research Group, and Psychosocial Well-being of Rural and Regional Australians Research Group.
Her research explores:
- Self-compassion and trauma responses in healthcare workers
- Psychosocial determinants of suicide risk in marginalized populations
- Telehealth accessibility for aging Australians during crises
- Belonging and mental health disparities in rural LGBTQ+ communities
Recent work includes evaluating suicide prevention programs, relocation stress interventions in aged care, and analyzing how internalized stigma impacts depression across gender/sexual identities. She supervises HDR students and co-led projects on paramedic mental health.
