Jason Zenor is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the State University of New York at Oswego. His research focuses on Communication Law and Policy, Media & Politics, and Native American Sovereignty. He holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of South Dakota School of Law, an M.P.A. in Public Administration from the University of South Dakota, and an M.A. in Communication from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School. His work bridges legal theory with contemporary issues in media, technology, and civil liberties. Key research areas include public vs. private speech protections, the legal implications of emerging technologies, and Native American civil liberties. Notable publications include Emerging Media: Legal Principles, Virtual Issues (2020) and articles on AI accountability and tribal sovereignty. He has presented at major conferences, including the National Communication Association, earning a Robert O’Neill Top Paper Award for his work on free speech and intellectual property intersections. Zenor’s scholarship analyzes topics such as fan perspectives on NFL player activism, audience reception of controversial media, and the legal boundaries of commercial speech. His interdisciplinary approach addresses modern challenges in communication law, technology ethics, and cultural sovereignty.
