Holly Zimmerman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Sciences at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), serving as the inaugural Program Director for the Genetic Counseling Program. She holds dual affiliations with the College of Allied Health Professions and the School of Medicine. Zimmerman is a first-generation college graduate and a Certified Genetic Counselor (ABGC) with over a decade of clinical experience in pediatric genetic counseling in Mississippi. She is deeply involved in medical education, having contributed to teaching medical students, pediatric residents, and maternal-fetal medicine fellows. Her work emphasizes supportive approaches to teaching and mentorship, reflecting her belief in building strong interpersonal relationships in healthcare. Professional Engagement Zimmerman serves on the board of directors for the Genetic Counselor Educators Association (formerly the Association for Genetic Counseling Program Directors), advocating for standardized education and training in genetic counseling. Her clinical background in pediatric genetics has informed her advocacy for accessible and compassionate genetic services, including telehealth innovations during the pandemic. Labs & Initiatives As program director, she oversees the UNMC Genetic Counseling Program, which emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and student well-being.
