Intiaz Chowdhury is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology at the University of Georgia, affiliated with the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. His work focuses on nematode management in cotton and vegetable crops to enhance grower profitability and sustainable agriculture.
- Ph.D. in Plant Pathology (2020), North Dakota State University
- B.S. in Microbiology (2015), North Dakota State University
Chowdhury’s research targets plant-parasitic nematodes (PPN), particularly root-knot, reniform, and sting nematodes. He develops molecular diagnostics, evaluates non-fumigant nematicides, and studies host resistance mechanisms to create holistic management strategies for southeastern U.S. agriculture.
His recent publications (2024–2025) highlight innovations in RPA assays for nematode detection, biochar and cover crops for soil health, and chemical-genetic integrated approaches for sustainable pest control across soybean, tomato, pepper, and cotton systems.
Chowdhury has secured funding from USDA NIFA, Cotton Incorporated, and Georgia commodity commissions (2019–2027). Grants address threats like Pratylenchus dakotaensis and Meloidogyne species in tobacco, pecan, and Vidalia onion industries.
