Sang H. Lee

Sang H. Lee is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity, particularly synapse loss linked to neuropsychological and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s. He employs multidisciplinary approaches including biochemistry, imaging, electrophysiology, and mouse genetics.

Dynamic remodeling of synapses, secreted factors affecting excitatory and GABAergic synapses, and mechanisms of synapse loss. Key projects include studying PRR7’s role in excitatory synapse loss via exosomes and TAFA2’s impact on GABAergic synapses and anxiety-related behaviors. His work integrates activity-dependent signaling pathways and neurodegenerative disease models.

Publications highlight contributions to understanding synaptic signaling, exosome-mediated communication, and molecular pathways in neurodegeneration. Recent work emphasizes Wnt inhibitors, chemokine-like proteins, and synaptic scaffolding molecules like S-SCAM.
