Prof. Dr. Martin Fuhrmann is a Group Leader at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) in Bonn. His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease (AD), particularly the roles of synaptic/neuronal loss and microglial sterile inflammation in cognitive decline.
Research Interests:
- Investigating excitation/inhibition imbalances in AD-like conditions
- Structural and functional deficits of GABAergic neurons
- Microglia-synapse/neuron interactions
- Impact on neuronal network connectivity
Methods: State-of-the-art in vivo intravital microscopy combined with electrophysiology, histology, biochemistry, and optogenetic/chemogenetic modulation in transgenic mouse models.
