Alicia Hawkins is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair of the Undergraduate Anthropology program at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM). She holds a PhD, MA, and BA in Anthropology from the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on Ontario archaeology, particularly Wendat archaeology, community-based and collaborative archaeology, zooarchaeology, and archaeological survey methodologies. She emphasizes quality assurance in field practices and ancient technological studies. Her work integrates interdisciplinary approaches, such as geochemical analysis of artifacts and environmental reconstructions, to understand prehistoric and early colonial lifeways. She collaborates with Indigenous communities to promote culturally sensitive archaeological practices. Key areas include the analysis of glass beads in transatlantic exchange, zooarchaeological studies of extinct species, and methodological evaluations in compliance archaeology. Dr. Hawkins is affiliated with the Ontario Archaeology at UTM research group and oversees the Zooarchaeology Lab. She contributes to curricula development and academic governance at UTM, balancing teaching, research, and administrative leadership.
