Grace Jaramillo is a Teaching Faculty and Honorary Research Associate at the University of British Columbia's School of Public Policy and Global Affairs (SPPGA). Her expertise spans industrial and trade policy in the Global South, public policy methods, and state capacity in the Anthropocene.
Her education includes a PhD in Political Science from Queen’s University, an MPP in Public Affairs and International Relations from University of Pittsburgh, and a certificate from Syracuse University’s Institute of Qualitative and Multi-Methods Research. She has also held a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship, researching Free Trade Agreements at the Balsillie School of International Affairs and UBC.
Jaramillo’s research interests focus on trade, investment, and innovation in the context of climate change adaptation, policy analysis methods, and political economy. Her Google Scholar articles (2008–2025) reflect a consistent engagement with Latin American political dynamics, trade policy, and diplomatic challenges, particularly in Ecuador-Colombia relations and Venezuelan crises.
Notable scientific awards include her nomination as a 20 most prominent young thinker of Latin America by CAF - the Development Bank of Latin America and Brookings Institution (twice, 2008–2010), and her role in The Carter Center's Bilateral Dialogue Group (2008–2010) mediating the Ecuador-Colombia border dispute.
She contributes to policy analysis through commentary in The Globe and Mail and The New York Times, and serves as a policy consultant for institutions like the Asia Pacific Foundation and Centre for International and Defence Policy. Her associations include the International Studies Association, Political Economy Network for Latin America (REPAL), and Canadian Association for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CALACS).
