Denis Bauer is an internationally recognized expert in bioinformatics and artificial intelligence, holding the position of Adjunct Associate Professor at Macquarie University in both the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science and the Faculty of Science and Engineering. She is also an AWS Data Hero and leads CSIRO's Transformational Bioinformatics Group. Her research focuses on leveraging cloud computing and AI to advance genomic medicine, with notable contributions to disease research acceleration and vaccine development during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bauer earned a BSc in Bioinformatics from Freie Universität Berlin (2004), a BSc (Hons) in Computational Biology from the University of Queensland (2005), and a PhD in Bioinformatics from the University of Queensland (2010). She has held roles at CSIRO since 2012 and has been recognized with prestigious awards including the CSIRO Collaboration Medal (2020) and the Women in AI Innovation Award (2022). Her research interests span genomic data analysis, AI-driven healthcare solutions, and cloud-based bioinformatics tools. Bauer has contributed to over $500M in national and international genomic medicine initiatives and has authored 50 peer-reviewed publications with 2,900+ citations. She advocates for gender equality in STEM and serves on CSIRO's Inclusion and Diversity committee. Her work has been featured in media outlets such as The Australian, Sydney Morning Herald, and ComputerWeekly.
