Dr. Muhammad Farooq holds multiple academic roles, including Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Australia (UWA), Associate Professor positions at Sultan Qaboos University (Oman), University of Agriculture Faisalabad (Pakistan), and Dankook University (South Korea). He specializes in crop physiology, seed science, and agronomy, focusing on crop adaptation to abiotic stresses, biofortification, and non-chemical weed control via allelopathy. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to food security and sustainable agriculture.
Research interests include optimizing crop resilience under environmental constraints, developing seed enhancement technologies, and promoting conservation agriculture. His articles highlight innovations in crop stress tolerance, biochar applications, and allelopathic weed control. He has been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher by Web of Science (2018–2021) and received awards such as the Distinguished Researcher Award (2020).
Dr. Farooq has supervised 10 PhD and 65 MSc/MPhil students and led 15 externally funded research projects. He actively contributes to academic governance, serving as Vice President of the Asian Allelopathy Society and editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Agriculture and Biology. His global collaborations span institutions in Germany, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea.
