معرفی
Bill Leggat is a Professor in the School of Environmental and Life Sciences at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He leads the Symbiosis Genomics Research Group, focusing on coral symbiosis, transcriptomics, and environmental impacts. His work explores how corals and their microbial partners respond to climate change, particularly thermal stress and ocean acidification. Leggat holds a PhD and BSc (Hons) from James Cook University. His research integrates molecular biology, ecology, and environmental science to understand coral resilience mechanisms.
Education:
- Doctor of Philosophy (James Cook University)
- Bachelor of Science (Biological Science) (James Cook University)
- Bachelor of Science (Honours) (James Cook University)
Research Interests: Coral symbiosis dynamics, transcriptome/metabolome responses to environmental stress, microbial community interactions, and the impact of climate change on reef ecosystems. His studies often involve high-latitude coral populations and mesophotic reef systems.
Grants and Collaborations: Active in interdisciplinary projects funded by Australian Research Council (ARC) and international partnerships. Collaborates with institutions like James Cook University, NOAA, and coral reef monitoring networks. Key topics include coral disease ecology, bleaching prediction, and restoration strategies.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Symbiosis Genomics group within the Discipline of Environmental Sciences and Management. Engages in fieldwork at Heron Island, Lord Howe Island, and Norfolk Island reefs.
