Sebastian Buhts is an Assistant Professor of Music at Lindenwood University, where he coordinates the instrumental music program and directs Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Marching Band, Pep Band, and Percussion Ensemble. He also teaches conducting and private percussion lessons. Additionally, he serves as a lecturer in North Indian tabla drumming at Washington University in St. Louis and teaches at St. Charles Community College. His roles include percussion instruction, ensemble direction, and guest conducting across multiple institutions. Dr. Buhts holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.) from Michigan State University, a Master of Music (M.M.), and a Bachelor of Music (B.M.) from Belmont University. He further studied orchestral percussion in Dresden, Germany, and at the Aspen Music Festival and School. His research focuses on North Indian tabla music, particularly analyzing the Benares gharana lineage. He is an active performer of new music, having premiered works at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, Cortona New Music Sessions, and with ensembles in the U.S. and Germany. As a specialist in tabla, he lectures and performs internationally, including a notable solo at the 2022 St. Louis Literary Award ceremony. Buhts is endorsed by Marimba One and Black Swamp Percussion. His performances span orchestral, jazz, and contemporary contexts, alongside collaborations with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Opera Theatre of St. Louis.
