Sirvan Karimi is an Associate Professor at the School of Public Policy and Administration, York University, within the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. His research focuses on Canadian politics, public policy, public administration, public law, comparative social policy, and social democracy, with a particular emphasis on democratization in the Middle East. He holds a Ph.D. from York University, an MA from York University, and a B.A. Honours from the University of Winnipeg. Karimi has taught at York University since 2007, also contributing to Brock and Ryerson Universities. He teaches across public policy, administration, and law, and has supervised numerous Master of Public Policy, Administration and Law (MPPAL) students. Recognized for teaching excellence, he received the Dean's Teaching Award (2015-2016) and was nominated for the President's University-Wide Teaching Award (2013-2014). His research explores contradictions of capitalism, neoliberalism, and democratic governance. Key publications include Beyond the Welfare State: Postwar Social Settlement and Public Pension Policy in Canada and Australia (2017) and The Tragedy of Social Democracy (2015). His work spans comparative policy analysis, democratization challenges, and the intersection of law and social rights. Publications reflect interdisciplinary interests, addressing topics like digital education post-COVID, Middle East democratization, and the impact of pandemic governance. His scholarly contributions blend theoretical frameworks with empirical analysis, emphasizing practical policy implications.
