Eiichi Motono is a Professor at the School of Political Science and Economics, Waseda University, with a career spanning since 2002. His academic journey includes Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oxford and a Master's from the University of Tokyo.
His research focuses on Modern Chinese Economic History, Treaty Port Society in China, and Foreign Trade and Finance. His work explores the interplay between colonial legal systems and Chinese commercial networks, particularly in Shanghai and Hong Kong. He has authored key publications on trademark law, comprador systems, and Anglo-Chinese economic relations.
