Dr Richard Milburn MBE is a Lecturer in Environmental Security at King's College London's Department of War Studies, part of the School of Security Studies. His research focuses on the intersection of armed conflict, environmental degradation, and security, particularly addressing illegal wildlife trade, biodiversity loss, and military sustainability. He holds a PhD from King's College London, examining wildlife conservation's links to security and development in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He co-founded Tunza Games, leveraging gamification to promote environmental education and fund conservation efforts, and represents the UK for the Pole Pole Foundation, a Congolese conservation charity. Milburn is also part of the Environmental Security Research Group and Latin American Security Research Group at King's, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between security experts and environmental scholars. His recent publications address NATO's climate response strategies and military greening, reflecting his focus on operationalizing environmental security policies.
