Michael John Harker is a Lecturer in the Department of Marketing at the University of Strathclyde’s Strathclyde Business School. He joined the institution in 2004 and holds a PhD in Relationship Marketing from Nottingham Trent University (2001), an MSc from the University of Newcastle (1996), and a BSc from the same university (1995). His research focuses on two core areas: consumer-organization relationships (e.g., loyalty schemes, social media marketing) and business education in marketing, with a recent emphasis on integrating human resource management theories into relationship marketing. He has co-authored the best-selling textbook Marketing: An Introduction (third edition, 2015). Research Projects: Principal Investigator on studies like Effective Use of Digital Technologies in Marketing Education (2020–2023) and Role of Parallel and Supporting Staff in Marketing Programmes (2023). Co-investigated projects on smartphone app SMEs and signature pedagogies in marketing. Teaching: Leads MK111: Introduction to Marketing, serving a large cohort of undergraduate students. Also teaches digital marketing and social media across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Awards: Recipient of multiple Nominated for Teaching Excellence Awards (2019–2024). Professional Activities: Active in initiatives like the Case Club and Feedback Kitchen projects, focusing on improving teaching practices and automating feedback for large classes.
