Jan Weiss is an Associate Professor in the Strategy & Entrepreneurship Department at Montpellier Business School. His work bridges academic and practical realms, focusing on sustainable development, entrepreneurship, and environmental policy. He joined the university in 2021 and holds a PhD in Applied Microeconomics from Jönköping International Business School and an MSc in Business Administration from the University of Mannheim. Jan’s research explores macro-level factors (e.g., culture) and micro-level dynamics (e.g., personality, values) influencing entrepreneurial processes and performance. A secondary focus is on sustainability strategies within polluting industries and sustainable consumption patterns. He uses System Dynamics Analysis to model socio-economic trajectories in resource-rich nations like oil-dependent economies, contrasting them with resource-poor regions. His studies often integrate the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a cross-cutting theme. Recent publications (2023) highlight trends in gender disparities in entrepreneurship and consumer loyalty in organic food markets. Earlier works (2019–2022) address environmental regulations’ impact on firm innovation and productivity, particularly in Sweden, and analyze policy trade-offs for unmanned aircraft systems. His 2015 HDR thesis further underscores his expertise in regulatory frameworks and institutional economics. Jan’s professional engagements include non-academic roles at UN-ESCAP (Bangkok), LekaGape (South Africa), and Swedfund International (Sweden). These collaborations emphasize sustainable investments to foster inclusive growth and reduce poverty in developing countries. While no formal advisees or grants are listed, Jan’s teaching contributions include the 'Research Perspectives in Sustainability' course in MBS’ digital DBA program. His work reflects a commitment to interdisciplinary research, blending strategy, leadership, and socio-economic sustainability.
