Nicolas Pontes is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing at the University of Queensland (UQ) Business School. He holds a PhD and MSc in Marketing, specializing in Branding. With industry experience as a marketing research coordinator, manager, and consultant, he has taught and conducted research at leading Australian universities. He currently serves as Program Coordinator for Advertising and Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Dr. Pontes founded Newish Communications Inc., Australia's first student-run communications agency, and serves as its Academic Advisor. His research focuses on consumer decision-making, online behavior, social media engagement, pricing strategies, and branding. Notable studies include investigations into human-robot interaction in retail, cultured meat acceptance, influencer marketing effectiveness, and carbon footprint labeling impacts.
His work has been published in top journals such as the European Journal of Marketing, Psychology & Marketing, and Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied. He regularly presents at conferences like the American Marketing Association and Association for Consumer Research. His teaching and research emphasize bridging academic insights with industry applications, particularly in digital marketing and emerging technologies.
Pontes' research collaborations span topics like consumer responses to humanoid service robots, ethical implications of brand rejuvenation, and leveraging influencers for authentic food product endorsements. He actively contributes to interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of marketing, psychology, and technology.
