Paulo Marques is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Economy at ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon, School of Social Sciences and Humanities. He is also an Integrated Researcher at DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte, where he coordinates the Youth Employment Observatory and the SOLID-JOB Research Project, both funded by the FCT. His academic work bridges political economy, labor market analysis, and public policy. He employs institutionalist and configurational methods to analyze how political and economic institutions shape labor market outcomes in Europe, particularly in Portugal and Spain. The recent publications highlight a consistent trend in analyzing labor market dualization , union strategies , platform regulation , and policy responses to youth unemployment . His work frequently appears in top journals such as Socio-Economic Review , Comparative European Politics , and European Journal of Industrial Relations , reflecting strong engagement with both theoretical and empirical debates in political economy. His scientific awards include: António Simões Lopes Prize (Best Doctoral Thesis, 2016) Manuel Lopes Prize (IEFP, 2018) António Dornelas Prize (Ministry of Labor, 2018) Jacques Delors Prize (2011) Silva Leal Prize (Honorable Mention, 2011) ISCTE Scientific Awards (2017) Paulo Marques has been actively involved in academic leadership, serving as Director of the Master’s Degree in Political Economy at ISCTE since 2019 and as Coordinator for both first and second-year students. He has also contributed to scientific editing, notably as a guest editor for a special issue of the International Journal of Social Welfare on youth employment in Europe. He is a member of the Portuguese Association of Political Economy (since 2018) and the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (since 2013). He conducts research at DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte, a leading center for socioeconomic change and territorial studies, where he leads impactful projects on youth employment and labor market reform. His work is regularly cited in national and international media, including RTP, Público, Expresso, CNN, and TSF, where he provides expert commentary on labor market trends, unemployment, and economic policy in Portugal.
