Wolfgang Hoffmann

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Hoffmann is a Professor at the University of Greifswald, affiliated with University Medicine Greifswald and the Institute for Community Medicine, Health Care Epidemiology and Community Health. He serves as Group Leader and Site Spokesperson at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) in Rostock/Greifswald.

His research focuses on dementia care systems, translational health services research, and primary care interventions. He has established a primary care research platform with over 130 physicians to develop evidence-based qualifications for health professionals and modular interventions for optimizing outpatient dementia care. His work integrates health economics, pharmacy, and medical ethics to evaluate interventions for efficacy, effectiveness, and cost-efficiency while addressing the chronic, multimodal needs of persons with dementia and their caregivers.

Hoffmann's team prioritizes translating scientific findings into routine care through collaboration with health policy makers and stakeholders. Their research aims to improve quality of life by avoiding premature institutionalization, strengthening interdisciplinary patient-centered care, and implementing innovative approaches within real-world healthcare constraints to meet the predicted doubling of dementia prevalence within 20 years.
