Peter Jaskiewicz

Peter Jaskiewicz is a Full Professor and Patricia Saputo Distinguished Chair in Family Business at the Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa. He is the founder and director of the Family Business Legacy Institute and serves as Associate Editor for Family Business Review and familybusiness.org. He has held visiting professorships at IMD (Switzerland), Zhejiang University (China), Sorbonne Business School and University of Nanterre (France), and King's College (UK).

Research Interests: His interdisciplinary research spans family business, entrepreneurship, succession planning, governance, transgenerational control, and socio-emotional dynamics. He integrates insights from sociology, psychology, management, and finance to understand how family firms sustain performance and legacy across generations.

Recent Publication Trends: His most recent work examines shareholder agreements and agency conflicts, emotional engagement of non-family employees, mental health in business families, CSR in family firms, and historical narratives in strategic change. These articles reflect a cohesive focus on governance, succession, and the psychological and institutional dimensions of family enterprises.

Advising and Grants: Dr. Jaskiewicz has served as Principal Investigator (PI) on multiple research grants, including a $243,472 SSHRC grant for developing a family-based theory of the family firm. He has also led projects on non-family CEO compensation and gender pay equity in family firms. He mentors emerging scholars and trains practitioners in succession planning and transgenerational team development.

Labs and Teams: He leads the Family Business Legacy Institute at the University of Ottawa, a research center dedicated to advancing knowledge and practice in sustainable family enterprise.
