Peter T. Francis is a Lecturer in Management at the Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB). He concurrently serves as Managing Director of MIMCO, LLC, an investment firm managing six partnerships and direct interests in real estate, private equity, and over 60 small businesses via the search fund model. He retired as Board Chair (2008) and CEO (2009) of J.M. Huber Corporation, a $2B family-owned global enterprise, which won the 2013 IMD-Lombard Odier Family Business Award. Francis has extensive board experience with for-profit entities (e.g., Dover Corporation) and non-profits like Tabor Academy and NJIT.
Education: MBA from Stanford GSB (1987, Arjay Miller Scholar) and BA in Psychology (cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) from Middlebury College. His teaching focuses on STRAMGT 512: The Yin and Yang of Family Business Transitions, analyzing governance, succession, and operational challenges in family enterprises. He has delivered lectures at Stanford and Wharton for over 20 years, leveraging his lifelong involvement in family businesses, including a leveraged buyout post-MBA.
Key research themes include cross-generational leadership, conflict resolution in family enterprises, and scaling operations while preserving familial legacy. His 2023 case studies on Senaca East Africa explore security business expansion in Africa. He advises CEOs in emerging markets through the Seed Transformation Program.
