Dr. Gabriele Abbondanza is a Marie Curie Fellow at the University of Madrid (UCM), Associate Researcher at the University of Sydney, and Associate Fellow at the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI). He specializes in Australian and Italian foreign and security policy, the Indo-Pacific region, irregular migration governance, and great/middle power theory. He holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of Sydney (2019) and has taught courses on international security, migration politics, and foreign policy at both institutions. His recent book, The foreign policy of irregular migration governance , explores state security and migrant rights in these countries. Dr. Abbondanza has been invited as an expert speaker at institutions like the Italian Senate, Spanish Ministry of Defence, and NATO Foundation. He has received prestigious awards, including the Marie Curie Fellowship (EU-funded) and the National Scientific Certification (ASN) for Associate Professor roles in Italy.
