Dr. Yusen Zhai serves as an Assistant Professor of Counseling and Director of the UAB Community Counseling Clinic at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), with additional appointments as Associate Scientist in the College of Arts and Sciences. His academic journey culminated with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from The Pennsylvania State University in May 2021. Dr. Zhai's educational background includes: Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision, The Pennsylvania State University (2021) His research program examines the complex interplay between mental health and public health crises, with particular expertise in the impact of infectious diseases on psychological well-being. Dr. Zhai's work consistently addresses social determinants of health and health disparities through a social justice lens.
