Dr. Erin Friedman is an Assistant Professor of Counseling at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), where she joined in 2022. She previously served as a visiting assistant professor at USJ and taught as an adjunct instructor at Northwestern University and Syracuse University. Her clinical experience includes work in community mental health centers, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and K-12 schools, where she focused on clinical training, supervising school counselors, and collaborating between non-profits and public schools.
Dr. Friedman holds a Ph.D. from Syracuse University, an M.S. Ed from Northern Illinois University, and a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (IL) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC).
Her research emphasizes school counselors' use of data to address inequities and advocate for student success, as well as the preparation of counselors-in-training in data-driven practices. She also explores adjunct instructors' experiences with professional gatekeeping. Dr. Friedman teaches courses such as Ethics and Standards of Practice, Multicultural Counseling, and Theories of Career Development.
She is affiliated with organizations like the American Counseling Association, Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and International Counselors for Social Justice. Dr. Friedman collaborates with students on research projects, supporting their independent and co-presented work.
