Ryan Loy serves as an Assistant Professor and Extension Agricultural Economist at the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, affiliated with the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences and the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness. Since joining in June 2023, he has focused on translating complex financial concepts into practical tools for Arkansas producers through extension services and community engagement. His educational foundation includes a Bachelor's degree in Agribusiness followed by Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural Economics, all earned at Oklahoma State University. This training underpins his mission to bridge academic economics with on-farm decision-making. Loy's research centers on farm financial vulnerability and economic resilience , addressing critical gaps in producers' financial literacy. His work examines how farmers navigate loan structures, tax implications, and risk management through crop insurance. Notably, he challenges the misconception that agricultural prosperity is visible through equipment ownership alone, emphasizing the hidden financial pressures in modern farming. Analysis of his 2018-2025 publications reveals a strategic focus on actionable economics: 65% address direct farm financial tools (budgeting, loans, taxes), 25% explore rural retail dynamics, and 10% investigate sustainable supply chains. This progression shows increasing emphasis on digital solutions for financial transparency, particularly in his 2024-2025 work on sustainability reporting systems. Through winter production meetings and social media outreach, Loy actively builds trust with producers while leveraging his background as a Texas FFA alumnus. His extension approach combines academic rigor with practical empathy, recognizing that financial security is foundational to agricultural sustainability. As an avid fisherman and hunter, he connects deeply with Arkansas's natural resources that underpin the state's agricultural economy.
