Barry Reilly is a Professor of Econometrics at the University of Sussex Business School, specializing in applied econometrics and labor economics. He previously held positions at the Economic and Social Research Institute (Dublin), University College Dublin, and the University of St. Andrews. His research focuses on labor market outcomes in developing economies, emphasizing gender issues, ethnicity, and informal sector activity, alongside recent work on sports economics. Key areas of interest include the economics of soccer, trade policies, and development economics.
Reilly has secured grants such as the £2.8M ESRC-funded project on Brexit uncertainty and Northern Ireland's internal market, research on bilateral trade flows for the UK Department for International Trade, and a BUPA Foundation grant examining education access and child health. He is a member of the Academic Advisory Group for APP Evaluations at the University of Sussex.
His teaching expertise includes micro-econometrics and graduate-level statistics modules on MSc programs. Over 100 publications span topics like gender representation in credit unions, racial disparities in soccer player valuations, and the welfare impacts of rural electrification in Senegal.
