Ylva Lennartsson Hartmann is a doctoral candidate and lecturer at Stockholm University's Faculty of Law, Department of Law. She teaches courses in public international law, international criminal law, and Human Rights in a Global Perspective, while supervising Master's theses.
Her educational background includes an LLM in international human rights law and humanitarian law from University Panthéon Assas, Paris 2, France, and an undergraduate degree from l'Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Rennes (Sciences Po), France.
Dr. Hartmann's research focuses on the criminalization of torture at the domestic level and its effects on national prosecutions and redress for torture survivors. She examines the interplay between international human rights law, international humanitarian law, and international criminal law, as well as their implementation in national legislation and courts. Her work also encompasses feminist legal theory and the position of non-state actors in public international law.
Her scholarly output includes publications in Juridisk Tidskrift, Juridisk Publikation, and the Revista Jurídica de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She has also authored justice sector assessments for the International Legal Assistance Consortium (2021-2022) and reports for the Swedish Foundation for Human Rights (2015-2017).
She is actively involved in the academic community as a Junior Fellow of Stockholm's Centre for International Law and Justice (SCILJ), a member of the Swedish International Law Association, and the Swedish section of the International Commission of Jurists.
Prior to her doctoral studies, Dr. Hartmann held significant positions including Legal Adviser at the International Legal Assistance Consortium, Human Rights Adviser at the World Organisation against Torture, and protection delegate for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Colombia, bringing substantial practical experience to her academic work.
