Tamsin Coombs is a Senior Lecturer in Animal Welfare at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), with a joint appointment in Animal and Veterinary Sciences. She specializes in equine and farm animal welfare, prenatal antecedents of animal behavior, and human impacts on animal welfare. She teaches at the University of Edinburgh/SRUC and leads courses in equine science and applied animal behavior.

Her research focuses on improving welfare standards for horses and livestock, including studies on Traveller/Gypsy horse communities, alternative management systems, and racehorse welfare. She has led projects funded by The Horse Trust, HKJC, and others. Coombs also serves on expert panels for OIE standards and consults on equine welfare education.
Her teaching includes MSc programs in Applied Animal Behaviour, Equine Science, and BSc modules at SRUC. She has supervised 26 MSc dissertations and co-supervised two PhD projects on horse welfare and lamb survival.
