Laura Dixon is a Senior Lecturer at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), specializing in Animal and Veterinary Sciences within the Animal Welfare Food Security Challenge Centre. She teaches on collaborative programs with the University of Edinburgh, focusing on poultry production, applied animal science, veterinary nursing, and welfare ethics. Her academic background includes a PhD from the University of Guelph (2008) and a BSc from Dalhousie University (2002).
Her research emphasizes animal welfare, particularly in poultry and companion animals. Key areas include feed restriction impacts on broiler breeders, behavioral enrichment for captive species, and welfare assessment tools for bears and commercial poultry. She has led/co-investigated projects funded by organizations like the Rabbit Welfare Fund and the University of Edinburgh, exploring topics such as sleep behavior as a welfare indicator and positive welfare metrics for farm assurance.
