Victoria Sandilands is a Senior Lecturer in Monogastric Science Research at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), within the School of Agriculture & Land-based Engineering. She holds roles including Programme Director for the MSc in Applied Poultry Science at the University of Edinburgh and Programme Leader for the HNC in Poultry Production at SRUC. Her research focuses on poultry welfare, particularly laying hen housing and management, with over 20 years of industry collaboration. She oversees SRUC's Animal Experiments Committee as AWERB Chairperson, reviewing ~60 experiments annually.

Her work spans topics like beak morphology, cage design, and humane culling methods. Funded projects include improving laying hen welfare and detecting early disease signs in poultry.
Teaching & Supervision: Supervised 7 PhD students (e.g., studies on poultry culling, bone health, and beak morphology). Taught courses in poultry housing, welfare, and behavior. Guided over 15 MSc and 5 BSc dissertations.
Grants & Projects: Includes EU-funded research on poultry sleep behavior and Scottish Government projects enhancing welfare through housing innovations. Recent work addresses feed restriction and disease detection in poultry.
