Louise Bulmer is a Senior Lecturer and Equine Programme Team Leader at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) Oatridge Campus. She holds dual roles as Senior Lecturer in Animal and Veterinary Sciences and leads equine academic programs. Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate levels, focusing on

Her research explores gut-brain axis communication in horses, particularly how dietary changes influence gut microbiota and behavioral outcomes. She investigates high-starch/fiber diets' effects on equine neurochemistry and fecal microbiota composition, with notable work on behavioral reactivity linked to microbiome shifts.
Her two peer-reviewed articles (2015, 2019) examine diet-behavior relationships in equines, with the 2019 study achieving 41 Scopus citations. She also holds the British Horse Society Stage 4 Senior Coach (BHSII) certification, integrating practical horsemanship expertise with academic roles.
Currently based at the Oatridge Campus, her work contributes to equine welfare science through interdisciplinary approaches combining nutrition, microbiology, and behavior analysis.
