Rod Dacombe is an Associate Professor in Politics and Head of the Department of Political Economy at King's College London. He holds affiliations with the Public Policy and Regulation Research Group, Political Theory Research Group, Centre for British Democracy, and History and Political Economy Research Group. His research focuses on democratic theory, participatory and deliberative democracy, digital democracy, civic participation, and the role of voluntary organizations in public services. He has authored influential books such as Rethinking Civic Participation in Theory and Practice (2018) and a forthcoming Democratic Theory (2021).
His research projects address inequalities in democratic participation, conspiracy theories in contemporary democracy, and the effectiveness of democratic innovations. He has secured funding from the Economic and Social Research Council, Leverhulme Trust, and governmental bodies. Teaching includes undergraduate courses on democracy and postgraduate studies in public policy, alongside co-authoring textbooks like The Politics Book.
Key awards include the College Teaching Excellence Award (within his first year at KCL) and a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship (2011–2013). His recent work on the cost-of-living crisis highlights lived experiences and policy implications, while collaborations with institutions like Keble College, Oxford, underscore his interdisciplinary reach.
