Dr Lee Jerome is a Professor in Education (Childhood and Society) at Middlesex University, affiliated with the School of Health, Social Care and Education. His work focuses on three core areas: citizenship education, children's rights, and teacher education. He coordinates the Special Interest Group on Professional Education and Partnerships and contributes to doctoral training programs. He chairs the faculty ethics committee and supervises doctoral theses in areas such as citizenship education policy, children's rights in schools, and inter-professional mentoring.
His research explores citizenship education policy development, deliberative pedagogy, and the implementation of the Prevent Duty in schools. He has pioneered a UN Convention on the Rights of the Child-centered approach in teacher training and led international research on child rights education across 26 countries. His publications address political literacy, democratic participation, and the role of universities in fostering civic engagement.
Recent work includes analyzing the impact of citizenship education on active citizenship outcomes, combatting conspiracy theories in classrooms, and rethinking political education in unequal societies. His articles highlight themes of civic renewal, equitable access to education, and the ethical responsibilities of educators.
