Professor Adrian Blau is a Professor of Politics in the Department of Political Economy at King’s College London, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. His research focuses on democratic theory, deliberative democracy, history of political thought (particularly Thomas Hobbes), rationality, corruption, and methodology of political theory. He has contributed to over 15 journal articles and authored Methods in Analytical Political Theory (2017). His current projects include editing a book on Quentin Skinner’s seminal work and writing Hobbes’s Failed Science of Politics and Ethics.
Blau has supervised numerous PhD students, including those researching democratic design, East Asian meritocracy, deliberative democracy, and constitutionalism. He has received two King’s College London Teaching Excellence Awards (2013, 2016) and serves on the editorial boards of three journals: The Journal of Politics, Political Studies Review, and Hobbes Studies.
His work bridges political theory and political science, emphasizing methodological rigor and interdisciplinary approaches. Key themes include the application of historical political thought to contemporary issues, critiques of rationality frameworks, and the intersection of ethics and political systems.
