Mitchell Joachim, PhD, is a Professor of Practice at New York University (NYU), where he serves as Co-Founder of Terreform ONE, a design collective, and holds leadership roles as University Senator and Co-Chair of Global Design NYU. He has held faculty positions at multiple institutions, including the University of Toronto (Frank Gehry Chair), Pratt, Columbia, and others.
Education: PhD from MIT, MAUD from Harvard, MArch (cum laude) from Columbia University.
His research focuses on ecological design, biotech architecture, sustainability, and resilient urban planning. He has exhibited work globally, including at MoMA, Venice Biennale, and MASS MoCA. Notable books include Super Cells: Building with Biology and Design with Life: Biotech Architecture and Resilient Cities.
Awards reflect his contributions to sustainability and architectural innovation, including the Fulbright Scholarship and Time Magazine's Best Invention. He is a TED Senior Fellow and has held fellowships with Safdie Architects and MIT's Martin Society for Sustainability.
