Louise Harpman is a Professor of Architecture, Urban Design, and Sustainability at NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study. She holds affiliations with the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, the Rudin Center for Transportation Policy & Management, and the Furman Center for Real Estate & Public Policy. Her academic roles include Founding Director of NYU Gallatin's BIG WALK initiative and openEARTHstudio/Global Design NYU.
Education: A.B. in East Asian Studies (Harvard, 1987), M.Phil. in Social Anthropology (Cambridge, 1988), M.Arch. in Architecture (Yale, 1993).
Research Interests focus on interdisciplinary design practices, micromobility solutions, urban sustainability, and neurodiversity-inclusive spaces. She integrates ecological principles with architectural innovation through projects like the zeroHouse™ and BIG WALK public engagement programs.
Awards include multiple AIA Honor Awards, recognition by the Architectural League of New York, and inclusion in New York magazine's 'Top 100' architects. Her work emphasizes socially engaged design and environmental stewardship.
