Dr. Luis Viquez is an Assistant Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the University of Rhode Island, where he serves as Director of Orchestral Studies and teaches clarinet. Previously, he held a seven-year tenure as Director of Orchestral Activities at the University of South Dakota.
His research focuses on orchestral conducting, opera, clarinet performance, and Latin American music. He has conducted ensembles across the United States, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, and England, including performances with the Heredia Symphony Orchestra and National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica.
Dr. Viquez holds degrees from the University of Costa Rica (BM), Truman State University (MA in Clarinet Performance and MA in Wind Conducting), and University of Missouri-Kansas City (DMA in Orchestral Conducting).
