Helen Watson is an Associate Professor of Bioscience (Education) and Associate Head of School for Education and Student Experience at the Peninsula Medical School, University of Plymouth. Her work focuses on bioscience education, curriculum design, and advancing EDI initiatives in higher education. She holds a biochemistry background and has contributed to national educational frameworks, including chairing the QAA Biosciences Subject Benchmark Statement review and leading committees for the Biochemical Society and Royal Society of Biology.
Her research emphasizes integrating transferable skills into curricula and promoting gender equality, reflected in her Athena Swan contributions, including steering a Silver award for the University in 2024. She teaches across medicine, diagnostic radiography, and biomedical science programs, specializing in biochemistry, cell biology, and genetics through innovative interactive methods.
Professional roles include Trustee of the Royal Society of Biology, member of its Curriculum Committee, and panelist for Advance HE’s Athena Swan charters. Her leadership spans EBL facilitation, academic tutoring, and reflective portfolio assessment within the medical school.
