Professor Cathy Coelho is a Professor of Dental Education at the Peninsula Dental School, part of the University of Plymouth's Faculty of Health. She leads the state-of-the-art Simulated Dental Learning Environment, overseeing undergraduate and postgraduate clinical training across multiple locations. Her responsibilities include managing 93 dental simulation chairs and supporting CPD programs. She chairs the Faculty of Health's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) committee and drives institutional EDI initiatives, achieving Silver Athena Swan awards for all six faculty schools.
Her professional focus includes advancing simulation-based education, 3D printing applications, and immersive technologies in clinical training. Notable achievements include a National Teaching Fellowship (2020) and recognition as an inspiring woman in dentistry. She is also a Mental Health First Aider, Disability Champion, and mentor for academic promotions and HEA fellowships.
Professor Coelho has 35+ years of dental practice experience and contributes nationally through roles in the UK/Eire Clinical Skills Collaboration Group and the Diversity in Dentistry Action Group. She pioneered the Student Equality Champions Group and developed academic remediation programs to support struggling students.
