Morag Powell is a Lecturer in Dental Therapy & Hygiene at the Peninsula Dental School, University of Plymouth. With 30 years of clinical experience as a Dental Hygienist (since 1992) and a Dental Therapist (graduated 2011), she transitioned to full-time academia in 2016. Her roles include Year 3 Lead for Dental Therapy, module lead for the final year clinical module, and DTH OSCE lead. She actively promotes equity and wellbeing through her leadership of the Dental School’s Athena Swan initiative, co-chairing the Faculty of Health’s Wellbeing committee, and contributing to EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion) committees.
Her teaching spans undergraduate programs in the BSc Dental Therapy and Bachelor of Dental Surgery, utilizing simulation environments, clinical settings, and blended learning formats. Beyond academia, she delivers postgraduate education nationally and internationally, focusing on clinical examination, caries management, periodontal instrumentation, and peri-implant disease treatment.
Her professional contributions emphasize translating clinical, business, and educational expertise into training future clinicians. She champions holistic dental care and interdisciplinary collaboration, with a particular focus on preventive oral health and student wellbeing.
