Dr. Heather Ellis is a Senior Lecturer in History of Education at the University of Sheffield's School of Education, where she serves as Examinations and Assessment Lead. She holds a PGCert in Academic Practice from Liverpool Hope University (2013) and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Previously, she taught at Oxford University, Oxford Brookes University, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and Liverpool Hope University.
Her research focuses on intellectual history and knowledge production in 18th-19th century Britain, examining classical influences on modern science, literary societies, and masculinity in scientific culture. She co-leads the AHRC/ESRC-funded project The School Meals Service: Past, Present, and Future? (2023-2025) and co-edits History of Education journal.
Ellis's publications demonstrate sustained engagement with historical knowledge networks, classical receptions in science, and educational reforms. Her work frequently intersects gender studies with institutional history, particularly analyzing masculinity constructs in academic settings across Victorian Britain and colonial contexts.
