Christian Rosenmund is a Professor of Neurobiology (W3) at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin since July 2009, affiliated with the Institute for Neurophysiology and the NeuroCure Cluster of Excellence. He previously held professorships at Baylor College of Medicine (2005-2010) and served as a Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry (1999-2003).
- Education: PhD in Neuroscience and Physiology (1993) from Oregon Health Sciences University; Habilitation in Physiology (1999) from Georg-August-Universität Göttingen
His research focuses on synaptic transmission mechanisms, including:
- SNARE complex regulation
- Complexin and synaptotagmin-1 functions
- Optogenetic manipulation of synaptic vesicles
- Neurophysiology of hippocampal synapses
- Neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., Rett syndrome)
- BDNF signaling and glutamatergic synapse dynamics
Publications highlight work on synaptic vesicle fusion, neurotransmitter release regulation, and translational implications for neurodevelopmental diseases. His grants include multiple NIH R01 awards and an HFSP Research Grant.
- Scientific Leadership:
- Director, FENS Course: Introduction to Synaptic Transmission (2018)
- Coordinator, Collaborative Research Grant 'Congenital Diseases' (2014)
- Scientific Advisory Board, University Basel (2015)
