Ann Gale is a Professor and Chair of Painting + Drawing at the University of Washington. She holds an MFA from Yale University (1991) and a BFA from Rhode Island College (1988). Her research focuses on figurative painting, human perception, and the psychological dimensions of portraiture. Gale’s work has been exhibited globally, including solo shows at Dolby Chadwick Gallery (San Francisco), the Fralin Museum of Art (University of Virginia), and the Portland Art Museum. She has received prestigious awards such as the Guggenheim Fellowship and is an Academician of the National Academy of Design.

Grants and fellowships include the Milliman Grant (University of Washington, multiple years) and the Royal Research Scholar Grant (1998). Her work is part of collections at the National Academy of Art and Design and the Portland Museum of Art.
