Aitor Jiménez is a sociologist, lawyer, and activist serving as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the ARC CoE Automated Decision-Making and Society within the University of Melbourne's Melbourne Law School. His work focuses on digital capitalism, automated decision-making, and the intersection of law, technology, and social justice. Jiménez has contributed to critical analyses of digital governance, corporate accountability, and racialized surveillance systems. He advises progressive political parties in Spain on digital regulation and collaborates with European think-tanks on digital political economy. His research spans topics such as data civics, rights in automated systems, and the colonial underpinnings of modern legal frameworks. Jiménez has engaged in human rights litigation in Spain and has published extensively on topics like digital nationalism, corporate crime, and the socio-political impacts of surveillance technologies. He actively participates in civil society initiatives advocating for equitable digital futures. Key collaborations include work with the ADM+S Centre and European think-tanks, while his advisory roles extend to policy development on fake news and digital public sphere regulation. Jiménez’s doctoral research, ‘The Silicon Doctrine’ , critically examined the legal-political foundations of digital capitalism, exploring alternatives to current exploitative systems.
