His research centers on improving care for low-income older adults in Medicaid-supported assisted living facilities. He specializes in palliative care, gerontology, and health equity, with a strong emphasis on addressing unmet emotional, social, and serious illness needs. He developed the 'Someone to Talk To' program, pairing residents with community health workers to foster care conversations and reduce isolation.
His recent publications span palliative care, dementia, hospice access, mental health, and health equity. Key themes include social determinants of health, care coordination, patient-centered outcomes, and nurse-led interventions. His work frequently employs qualitative and mixed-methods approaches to understand patient, caregiver, and provider experiences.

He is currently a Site Principal Investigator for a multi-site trial (U19AG078105) testing a nurse-led intervention to reduce hospitalizations in dementia patients. He also contributes to editorial and advisory roles with the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, American Assisted Living Nurses Association, and the Center of Excellence for Assisted Living.
He is actively involved in developing culturally responsive models for palliative care access, particularly for women of color with advanced breast cancer, and in creating crisis management frameworks for palliative care systems.
