Dr. Lena Schürmann is a Researcher at Humboldt University's Institute of Social Sciences, specializing in the Sociology of Work and Gender Relations within the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education. Her work focuses on precarious work conditions, gender relations, social inequality, and the welfare state. She co-led the 2020 Berlin University Alliance-funded project 'Solidarity with the Self-Employed - Ambivalences of Emergency Aid' with Dr. Isabell Stamm (TU Berlin).
Her research integrates interpretive methods like discourse and biographical analysis to explore subjectification processes in low-wage sectors and self-employment contexts. Recent work examines how crises reshape entrepreneurial futures and social solidarity mechanisms. She has published extensively on topics including care labor economics, policy impacts on marginalized workers, and gender dynamics in digital economies.
Professional activities include organizing academic conferences, media engagements on labor issues, and consulting for theater productions addressing feminist themes. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges sociological theory with policy analysis, emphasizing methodological rigor in understanding modern work structures and social inequities.
