Prof. Dr. Karin Lohr is an Associate Professor in the Sociology of Work and Gender Relations at Humboldt University of Berlin, affiliated with the Institute of Social Sciences within the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education. She has held a permanent research position at the university since 1988 and served as Acting Chair at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (1992–1993). Her research focuses on labor and industrial sociology, organizational sociology, industrial relations, and gender research.
Dr. Lohr earned her Dr. oec. (PhD) in 1980 and habilitation (Dr. sc. oec.) in 1988 from Humboldt University. She has led major research projects funded by institutions like the Hans Böckler Foundation and DFG, exploring topics such as the economization of educational institutions and transformation processes in East German industries.
Her academic roles include Chair of the Teaching and Studies Commission, Erasmus Coordinator, and liaison to the Hans Böckler Foundation. She co-edits the Berliner Journal für Soziologie and has published extensively on work subjectification, organizational change, and gender asymmetries. Her work bridges theoretical debates with empirical analyses of institutional dynamics in education, labor markets, and corporate structures.
