Maxim Samarov is a Senior Professor of Practice and Orchestra Director at Tulane University's Department of Music, within the School of Liberal Arts. He holds a D.M.A. from Michigan State University and has taught music theory, conducting, and chamber music. Previously, he held faculty positions at St. Cloud State University and Luther College. As a conductor, he has led ensembles such as the Pleven Philharmonic and co-founded the New Orleans Chamber Orchestra. His compositions include operas, symphonies, and chamber works like the cantata Ars Moriendi . Recent compositions focus on narrative-driven pieces like Falling... , exploring themes of relationships through vocal and instrumental collaboration. His works blend traditional and modern techniques, emphasizing emotional depth and structural innovation.
